There is a difference between what Trump wants to do in Greenland and Gitmo in Cuba. Denmark and Europe will benefit from the protection the US will provide through its military bases in Greenland. Its a win for them in that way. For Trump, he will be able to proceed with the Golden Dome.

Trump wants Greenland for its strategic location. I think he would've liked to buy it, but this is as far as he can go right now with the Europeans. Greenland dreams of being independent one day of any country, but the truth is they can't survive without help from another country. Thats why they are part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
