Let's chalk up the Pope issue as absolutely irrelevant. All it did was spotlight Trump's ongoing assholery.

I have no confidence there is any strategic plan or exit plan of any kind. Congressmen have stated the same. Trump's statements have directly contradicted each other. Nothing that Trump has claimed has been affirmed by the Iranians.

You have faith in Trump's supposed vision. I don't because I only see ego, braggadocio and posturing from the administration, combined with statements that never fit what the Iranian's response is. All we have seen are flip flops of basic facts.

For a country without any air defense or viable navy they sure punch above their weight.

Iran is different than North Korea in that it funds terrorism around the world. Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis were funded by Iran.

The Arab countries approve of what the US is doing and want the US to finish the job.

I've seen conjecture that Saudi Arabia wants the US to lose in order to reduce its power in the gulf.

The Iranian people are thankful to the US for freeing them from the evil regime.

We have no reliable reading on what the composition of Iranian regime support is, and the protester slaughter narrative has almost no reliable backing facts.

Besides all this:

A renewed air campaign is going to be bloody with a lot of our air force shot down and countless civilian deaths. The earlier campaigns have just scratched the surface.

Also China has indicated that it might take over Iran's uranium. Which adds to China's strength and makes the entire situation even more unnecessary.

My main point is that Iran probably has options available to it that blow anything the administration wants to do out of the water. Plus Iran has been threatened on a existential level. Iran is perfectly correct not to trust the western powers.
