^ The rich elites in your area protected your area so that the country folks stayed around. In my area there is no domination of large areas by elites.

There are NO country folks around here. They left or died out and the rural character has been largely erased so there are no country folks to replace them.

Just suburban and city rats.

Elites may seem evil but they tend to preserve small caches of good things.
