Big Tech Killed The Website (Public Board)
FaceBook was the end of a lot of websites and forums when they moved their sites there. They gave up control of how their sites were run. There is no freedom to run your site your way. Plus, there is the surveillance aspect of FaceBook. I know in the end there is no privacy online, but a smaller website is far more private than a big site like FaceBook.
For example. You can post things here that would never fly on FaceBook. Cornpop does an excellent job keeping this place low-key. Its like an oasis in the desert. On FaceBook, anything you say might be used against you one day. Their records of your conversations go way back.
What if this site was on FaceBook when we found out about what a former member was involved in? None of us knew about him, but we'd be under suspicion anyway because we interacted with him. That would not be good.
Maybe your site won't make the Google "preferred website" list, but its still findable and more private. If you're more conservative you might be on the banned list for something.
