Here's the last post I made about "Dictum", the former member of this board who passed away from suicide by police a couple years ago: https://deplorablecoder.club/index.php?id=34565

CNN recently published what is a really good, thorough investigative piece about this guy's journey into becoming essentially a spy for Russia. This is recent. The link bypasses the CNN paywall.

It was a lot I expected, and a lot that I knew nothing about him.

There is also a video on the CNN site that isn't paywalled yet:

I'm stunned. I knew he was Russian and that he really supported Ukraine. I haven't read the entire article yet, but I can't believe this is Dictum. He mostly talked about his family and job problems in the posts I saw, and his problems with women.

CNN did a great job with the article. I can't believe he was a spy. Its a good thing you never talked to them.

I absolutely assure you that this guy in the article is our forumer Dictum aka Unix.

CNN did an impeccable job of piecing together the story of his downfall. They had to go out in the communities and track down bystanders and interview his wife and son.

I suspect if I had talked to that reporter I wouldn't have contributed anything substantial except a sense that he had lost his bearings in life well before his demise. I also believe the FBI wouldn't care less about me. I last chatted online with him in August 2023.

I just always figured that he would never do anything that significant after I stopped chatting with him.

I read the rest of the article and think he was involved in something really, really bad that was an FBI setup. He was supposedly a Russian dissident that favored Ukraine, so how could he be a Russian spy? Dictum didn't seem like the type to be an international spy but whatever he did must've been very risky. I don't know what he did and can only speculate.

All he ever cared about was the well-being of his son. He probably knew he wasn't going to make it after what he did so he buried $50k for his son. Geez, what a horrible ending for Dictum and his family. So sad.

That was an interesting story. But I do wonder how much of it is true.

So he's left Green inside and walked outside alone, and got shot five times including twice in the torso except that he got shot 40 times including in the face. And Green is deaf in one ear (only) and the reporter doesn't ask him how many shots does he think might've been fired. Or she did ask but didn't report.

Is my memory tricking me or did dictum call his ex Marina in his posts here?

It seemed like there were no direct witnesses to the actual shooting, because nobody has said whether Ilya had a weapon and/or was resisting, and also, there is no direct witness to the shots fired. Even the reporter is going on guesswork and what people heard.

I saw some coverage from TV clips right after this happened and the CNN reported did a good job with the info that was around.

Her name is Olga. She and his son both wanted to remain unnamed so they used pseudonyms for the interviews.

I remember him calling his ex Marina. Its interesting that she decided to use that pseudonym in the CNN article. Hmm.
