Has Anyone Tried AI Assisted Coding? (Public Board)

I haven't had the chance to try AI coding. At work, they have so many security rules I can't really use it. I'm not motivated to pay $$ for a personal use subscription.

Has anyone tried it? Is it any good? The impression I got was that simple stuff it can do mostly OK, but if you try complex things it just fails. I also heard that, if you use it over time in large project, you wind up with AI spaghetti slop.

It's hard to tell from random people on the Internet, because there are posts saying it's awful, followed by accusations of them being losers who can't cope with technology change. There are posts saying it's awesome, followed by accusation of them being AI generated posts put there by AI vendor PR.

I'm kind of retired and my last SW dev role was more than 10 years ago so I lack peer contacts to reality check this.

I see descriptions floating around about entire enterprise and line of business websites being pumped out by AI.

I suspect that it requires subscriptions to extremely high powered, high cost AI tools in order to generate truly functional code that is useful in its own right as more than a code fragment.

So a gay little $20/month subscription won't cut it.

The success stories about web portals being developed turnkey with AI are probably from the elite (high dollar) end of the range of development.
