20+ Years too late; tech is fucked anyway (Public Board)
You probably followed the boards that preceded this one. We had massive in-board complaints about H1B unfairness back in the 2000s and lots and lots of howling at the moon.
The technology and IT layoffs being implemented now are being attributed to AI. That is not correct. What happened was, money was cheap in 2020 and therefore companies did massive IT hiring during the pandemic. Now they're shedding the bodies they over hired.
Regardless, technology is way past its prime as a good career option. The Trump actions on H1b are good but insignificant in effect compared to the big picture. They kind of don't even matter: current H1bs are grandfathered in. Any opportunities that open up will be replacement roles.
