Sorry to hear that. I wonder what they plan to do with that? In the US now, we have to get a Real ID. If I don't get one I'll need "extra screening" before I can board a domestic flight. They want to make it as inconvenient as possible so you'll get a Real ID.

They tried in about 1985 with the Australia Card. That was soundly rejected. But people are more ignorant and compliant now. They love their little computers (phones) and everything is oh so convenient using it.
Sigh.

Government is always about control. People everywhere love their phones. They can't live without them so the only answer is to comply if you want your life to go smoothly
