He's hoping to provoke a world war instead of working on a peace deal with Russia. He isn't even a legitimate president of Ukraine because he suspended elections last year, supposedly because of the war. Its more likely that he did it because he knew he would lose.
He has to go, somehow, or this war will never end. Its just a killing field at this point.

Zelenski will eventually (sometime) be deposed/ejected/removed/assassinated.
Once he leaves his current office he is a walking dead man and will be dead within a few months.
He's stringing out the inevitable IMO. From seeing his lack of emotional control and lack of regard for protocol when he visited the White House and was reamed by Trump and Vance, he's acting totally 100% out of personal self interest and probably fear of consequences when the music stops playing.
He is thinking IMO of absolutely nothing else. Every single other Ukrainian could be killed and he would be fine with it as long as he's safe. He's in sales mode now, pitching the war to anyone with a check book.
That he couldn't attempt a photo op meeting without making an ass of himself says everything. He's basically a cornered rat.
