Interesting Conversation With My Dentist (Public Board)

My dentist's assistant/hygienist is retiring, due to health issues of relatives and she has to take care of them. My dentist is doing the hygienist work himself. I asked him "Why don't you hire someone new?"

His reply was "If I hire someone new, they can make a false sexual harassment claim against me and I'm out a million dollars." Apparently, all the hygienists know that all it takes is a no-evidence claim of harassment, and they can make big $$$$. All the dentists know that hiring someone new is risky, because it is much more likely to hire someone who wants to game the system than someone who wants to do the job.

If my dentist is concerned about a false sexual harassment claim, that means he probably knows other dentists that fell for the trap.

That was an interesting example of society breaking down. My dentist can't hire a new hygienist, because if he hires an abuser they can take him to the cleaners.

Would jurisdiction matter? You're in NYC if I recall. Law 'n order broken down there since the pandemic and the big liberal cities represent the worst of our social decay.

Curious if this is the same across the country.

I do like how high-rise residents in NYC throw feces and juicy garbage from 20 stories up onto the Hamas protesters and those stupid fucking bongo drummers.

I can understand the dilemma he faces, especially in NYC. After the "Me too" movement, the laws seem to favor the women when it comes to sexual harassment. It isn't fair because they can just accuse the dentist of doing something with no evidence. He has no way to fight back because the law now always go with the "believe women" movement.

Some women are gold diggers and have no scruples, but all women aren't like that. Eventually he'll have to take a chance on someone. Maybe someone older. I used to see a doctor who at one time was accused of sexual harassment of a patient and he lost the case. I don't know the details of the case but after he lost he always had to have a female assistant with him whenever he met with a female patient. He wasn't my regular doctor, but sometimes I would see him if my doctor wasn't available. I never had a problem with him.

Our society is so broken, especially our justice system.

Hire a bloke. And all the other dentists do the same.

When women or astroturfers start complaining about what happened to all the hygienists' jobs, tell them to repeal the no-evidence shit and see if that helps.

^ Equal Opportunity law violations. And employment discrimination violations. Probably sets up the dentist for a different type of lawsuit.

Most men aren't interested in a dental hygienist job. Its mostly a women's field. There should be a much higher bar to bring a case of sexual harassment at work then exists today. A dentist's office is a very close work environment. To some women today, a slightly dirty joke or a compliment about how nice you look is a form of sexual harassment.

I've heard of these issues in corporations but now the "disease" is spreading to doctor and dental offices and other small businesses. I've had two doctors and a dentist retire on me over the past five years. Not sure if this is one of the reasons why but both doctors complained about big conglomerates taking over as well as government regulations and hoops they had to jump through. They just work as long as necessary and call it quits in this business climate.

big conglomerate Dental office

My dentist worked part-time in one of those big hedge fund dental offices for some extra cash. They paid him something like $50/hr, hardly worth his time. When I see him directly, it's $250 for a half-hour, he gets to keep most of the money. He does have to pay rent and expenses and overhead, but it's still way more profitable for him.

Its hard to believe one of those big hedge fund dental offices would pay an actual dentist $50 an hour, especially in the NYC area. That's definitely not worth his time.
