People are so unaware of anything about astronomy that they'll believe many of the crazy stories being pushed right now. There is nothing supernatural about an eclipse at all, but scammers are gonna scam the ill-informed and they'll fall for it.

I heard the Nineveh cities story. You could really make up your own prophecy with this eclipse and someone will believe you. I think most people would rather hear the stories than the plain truth about eclipses. Its more fun for them that way.
