More on the lunkhead "Dictum" once in our midst...

https://www.wjtv.com/news/state/fbi-shooting-at-mississippi-motel-still-unexplained-but-family-looking-for-answers/

Yes, to anyone inattentive/head up the ass, the forum member Dictum is this person Ilya and he was shot to death by the FBI in October at a motel.

I still have his Paypal address in my account... I bought a "Das keyboard" from him a year ago. Good price but god that keyboard was gross.

I haven't gotten any calls or contacts about assisting Ukraine so I think I'm good.

Poor Dictum. What an awful way to go. I feel so sorry for his family. I don't know what he was involved in but it doesn't justify the FBI shooting him 40 times in the chest. He never had a chance. This is our FBI today. They're judge, jury and executioner.

I know Dictum was very knowledgeable about the Ukraine/Russia war but didn't see him as a threat of any kind.

I assume he did something really stupid when the FBI moved on him

Sorry. Gotta respect the deceased but facts are facts, even a few of his posts here indicated that his assessment of risks was quite bad.

I don't remember him really emphasizing any risks. He seemed to have it under control. Maybe I missed some posts but I thought any involvement he had with Ukraine was benign.

No, you're not getting it.

OTHER areas of life, not spying or Ukraine he was oblivious about risk, demonstrated in words. He had the whole thing about the 90 day fiance. And a couple years ago when I reported here about the guy in the grocery store who got in my face he said I should have faced off.

I pay attention to how people react to situations and then one can project reasonably well what they will do in a given situation in the future.

He probably drew a gun when the agents approached at that motel. Just guessing but even tho I hate the FBI I assume he provoked things.

I don't feel very accomplished in life myself but what a shit legacy. Oh, well the only people who leave legacies build hospital or college wings with their name on a bronze plaque. The rest of us are forgotten in 2 months.

I remember your conversation with him about the 90 day fiance. How he could think that was a good idea, I don't know. That's the epitome of being oblivious to risk. It was also not a good idea to face off with the guy in the grocery store. I don't care how you feel at the time, its just not worth it.

He didn't make the best decisions in life. I agree that he probably drew a gun but shooting him 40 times in the chest is just sickening. Maybe he had more than a handgun. I always saw him as a very Russian man. They have an intense outlook on life and are pretty extreme in their viewpoints. Many years ago, I worked next to a Russian company that rented space in the building my company was in. They were mostly antisocial and always looked strung out about something. They were depressing people. Dictum/Unix was like that, IMO.

None of us will ever be remembered individually except by the people that love you. That only lasts as long as they do. Then you're forgotten forever. Its sad for Dictum to leave a legacy like that for his family. I'm sad for them. Its a stain.

Yeah, completely 100% agreed on every point.

I'm guessing the FBI has a zero tolerance policy on armed resistance and any weapon shown results in throwing everything they have at the suspect. That may be a relatively modern policy but the way this government works now they assume everything negative and throw everything imaginable at an adversary. The trope of Jack Bauer in "24" shooting someone in the knees mercifully to stop them without killing them seems to be a total fantasy now.

Russians are indeed weird. It's probably the entire Slavic thing... a depressing fatalistic world view that's shared as a culture. One on one discussing things with him Unix supported me a lot and his viewpoint was that everything that happened to you was pre-ordained and inevitable and was a product of processes in the world that you could not control. I argued a bit on the point with him, it's like he was like free will was an insignificant component of our fate.

I'll say this, I kept blowing him off when I was jump to a new forum. He wanted to be friends and saw me as a compatriot. He just had no idea how to actually *be* a friend. He meant well, I think. Probably even with whatever shit he was into that got him killed.

There was a member of the old computer consultants forum back around 2010... I did some copywriting work for his software product. He lived in Toronto but he was from Bulgaria (Slavic of course). I spoke with him on the phone once... He had excellent English skills but damn, he was the most dour individual I had ever spoken with. Very terse, almost like he's scared to just speaking normal or something. Even talking about something neutral he sounded super negative. But it was just average talk. It was actually difficult to understand him.

The FBI policy is shoot to kill and then cover it up. Give anyone that asks questions the runaround.

This is so true "Russians are indeed weird. It's probably the entire Slavic thing... a depressing fatalistic world view that's shared as a culture." Even Russian women have that depressing demeanor. I think Unix always thought he was doomed and there was no hope. He couldn't see any other way in life. It was pre-ordained like you said.

I liked Unix. He was okay, but definitely Slavic. Sometimes he didn't have much to say and other times he would post a really thoughtful post. He was just himself, kind of awkward when communicating sometimes.
