I guess I can see that a pro-Trump zealot who had absolutely no self-awareness would drive around with self made IDs and a home made license plate and try to get into a Trump rally.

You can get very far on no self-awareness. Sometimes being so dumb that you're nonchalant about everything can make you pretty well "invisible".
