Don't you hate the modern subtitles on videos, the ones where the words appear one by one as they are being spoken. They are incredibly distracting. And I always feel like the maker is trying to program me.

The spirit of that effect seemed to start with Star Wars with the endless scrolling titles at the beginning.

I usually hate pretense and affectations. Seems like another one.
