Did you ever use a self-driving car? (reply)

Their answer is nonsense. No driver would be holding down the accelerator while they crashed into the house. They'd be freaking out and bracing for impact. Ashok doesn't want to admit that the Autopilot software has a serious problem and neither does Musk.

A crash like this doesn't bode well for self-driving vehicles. The Autopilot software said it was in override mode, but the driver said it wasn't. They are trying to pin it on the driver, which makes you think twice about ever getting into a self-driving vehicle. Its your word against their software.

and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash

I think that contains the answer. No human could hold the accelerator down after a crash.

If autopilot was in control when the crash occurred than Tesla is responsible unless the human driver overrides it. Elon Musk denies autopilot would drive like that

"Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk said the claim that the car was in autopilot “makes no sense” as Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature “drives slowly through neighborhood streets and this was a high speed crash.”

Below is the excuse by Tesla. I don't buy it. I think their technology malfunctioned. Also, why would you need to press the accelerator to 100% to override the system? No human would do that in any neighborhood because they don't want to die.

"Ashok Elluswamy, the director of Tesla’s Autopilot software and Vice President of artificial intelligence, replied, saying, “Yup. In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area. They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.”

Did you ever use a self-driving car? (reply)

The main legal thing about driving a vehicle is that the driver is ultimately responsible for any damage caused in operation. With AI in the mix I assume that the driver is 100% responsible for any damages caused by autopilot going bonkers. Not for me.... If I'm gonna be responsible, I don't need an AI to help me drive into houses.

Did you ever use a self-driving car?

I never did. The technology just isn't good enough. I thought this article really highlighted the problems with self-driving vehicles. The driver said he was in auto-pilot mode when the crash happened, but Tesla said he overrode the autopilot. I'm not sure what the truth is, but if you look at the short video of the car flying into the house its shocking.
