What it sounds like happened: Mentally ill man who probably belonged in prison or a secure mental hospital (Jordan Neely) was threatening people on the subway. He wound up in a chokehold by Daniel Penny, passed out, and later died.
The mainstream media is making it sound like Daniel Penny just walked up to Jordan Neely, jumped him by surprise and put him in a chokehold. I guarantee you there was some conflict first, with Jordan Neely probably throwing the first punch or very aggressively provoking Daniel Penny.
It sounds like Daniel Penny is facing 15 years maximum on the manslaughter charge. He is in NYC, so it is almost guaranteed that he will be convicted and a judge will sentence him to the maximum. The leftist spin is that it is 100% Daniel Penny's fault that Jordan Neely died. Jordan Neely has zero responsibility for his actions. Jordan Neely had a huge rap sheet and outstanding warrants for violent crimes.
Daniel Penny is an idiot if he thinks he's going to get a fair trial. He should have left the country and applied for political asylum.
There's a homeless man who lives on a bench in Grand Army Plaza. He wasn't there today. I wonder if someone decided to do a sweep of homeless people?
On the subway tonight, there was a homeless man screaming incoherently, for several minutes. I noticed that he was looking out the train like he was looking for his stop. I realized he was screaming "City Hall! City Hall!" I told him that he was going in the wrong direction, the City Hall stop is the other way. That seemed to satisfy him and he got off the train.
If he had said "I'm looking for City Hall" in a coherent manner, he probably would have gotten a useful response. He couldn't interact any better than screaming "City Hall!" over and over again. I was worried it was another Jordan Neely situation.
