I don't need 16TB (Public Board)

Certainly don't use them. I want them. Why?

1) Making sure the machine stays viable for years instead of running out of space, it's called capacity planning. My machine is 5 years old and I want plan to keep it for another 5 years. Yeah, I keep my hardware until it's 8-10 years old or there is a quantum leap in technology. The last time I upgraded, my previous machine was a 2006 Sun Ultra 40M2 with 4 spinning rust disks, 300GB each. When SSDs came out, it was a deal-breaker.

SSDs are the easiest / cheapest way to prolong the life of hardware.

2) Get the stuff you need now before money loses all value. I do not think they will get much cheaper, if at all in the future. Watching current geopolitical machinations I am included to think electronics will go up in price, meaning everything will go up in price, if you need anything get it *now*. Electronics and everything is so dirt cheap because of the petro-dollar. That's about to change given Saudies agreed to sell oil in Yuan. The petro-dollar house of cards is coming apart.

3) Someone else benefits from the transaction. I am not self-centered. Meaning someone has to sell, and if I get something, even at a less than ideal price, I do not see it as my loss but as someone's gain. One has to see the big picture instead of a small, self-centered egotistical bubble we all live in.

4) this kind of ties with (1) - the larger the capacity of a SSD, the larger is the TBW rating. The 4TB 870 EVO has 2400 TBW rating. It will probably outlive me. They are coming out with 8TB modules which I won't need for the next 5 years (assuming I am still alive).
The cheaper QVO doesn't have a great TBW, like 600TBW. Which is still plenty but not as impressive. The old style HDD don't have that limit as far as I understand. They do wear out mechanically but not due to the number of reads and writes. Overall it seems HDDs are less reliable long-term but this doesn't mean SSDs are infinite.

5) Because it's there. The same answer given by a man who climbed one of these high and dangerous mountains.
